Costs incurred during the course of the research can only be estimated. These are typically:
Certificates required to 'unblock' research (e.g., discover the names of fathers on a marriage certificate)
Other pay-per-view documents, such as parish baptisms/marriages/burials, or wills
Printing (A4* and A3**)
Presentation materials (ring binder, punched pockets)
Packaging and postage
*HP laser toner cartridge retailers quote 6p per page at 5% coverage. The average coverage for documents containing original images is closer to 25%. Minimal reprints are inevitable after error-checking, and the 90GSM paper costs 2.8p/page. I therefore arrived at the figure of 30p per page as a ‘real world’ cost per page.
**A3 charts are printed on an inkjet printer. Again, these require printed drafts to ensure accuracy of data and aesthetically-pleasing proportions. Inkjet toner is significantly more expensive than laser toner. The cost of A3 charts is determined to be £2.50 per page.
If my quote is accepted, I require a preliminary payment of half my research fee plus estimated costs, with full settlement of my fee (adjusted up or down for actual costs) within 14 days of receipt of findings.
